Podcasts are pretty cool.  Let me explain what they are, its like a mini media player that is embedded in your website and can play audio clips.  I just spend about an hour trying to figure out how to embed this podcast into my blog and I am still unsuccessful.  I don’t even know if it’s possible, so fellow readers, if it is- let me know.  In the meantime, I have settled on uploading my podcast onto my Podbean account, which Dr. Youngblood introduced us to.  Podbean.com is like a blog for podcasts, and it makes it super easy to upload a file. When I went to embed it from podbean, it didn’t work- more unsuccessful attempts.

Also, one might think you can upload any audio/mp3 clip into a podcast and play away.  Thank goodness Dr. Youngblood turned us away from that because it is illegal.  I was about to upload one of my iTunes songs and call it a day, oops- that’s not allowed.  Sooooo, I went to Archive.org and eventually downloaded a HUGE file of songs that I assume are Grateful Dead (hopefully Dr. Youngblood doesn’t read this, he might shudder at the fact that I am not keen on his favorite band.)  Archive.org has a lot of audio clips and mostly Grateful Dead music available for free.  I downloaded about 30 songs in a zip file, extracted it, and then uploaded one of the songs onto my Podbean.  I have no idea what song it is, so don’t even ask. Also, I don’t even know if I can do that action again since I clicked away on Archive.org for 30 minutes straight.  Another issue I stumbled onto is that a lot of these files are Quicktime files which you can’t save onto your computer, that is when I had to stumble upon a huge file and unzip it.  Pod away people. I would have much rather podcasted T-pain, I couldn’t figure out how.

Courtney,
I love your positive outlook on podcasts, all while sharing with us your frustration! I was so confused when Dr. Youngblood came to explain these little things, but that’s why I have a degree in Enlgish, not podcasts! Good luck and thanks for a great post!

Courtney,

I feel your pain on the downloads of podcasting. Trying to do so myself, but having a little difficulty. Thanks for reminding me about the site, archive.org, I couldn’t find in my notes which one it was.

You did a great job on this.

Courtney,
I am with you and everyone else. I had no idea how to podcast on my blog. I probably should have taken a little better notes. The issue with Quicktime has been giving me headaches as well.

Okay that was one of the most complicated things we’ve done so far. I am thinking I am not a fan of podcasting.

Courtney,
I totally agree with you about the complications of podcasting. I’m having some trouble myself. I was a little confused after Dr. Youngblood’s presentation, but it did help me get a general idea of what a podcast is. And he made a good point about uploading music! I too am frustrated by these podcasts, but hearing that I’m not the only one makes me feel a little better. Thanks for sharing!

CB,

First of all, I too, feel your pain on figuring this post out. It took me so long to finally figure it out. Thanks so much for your help too, it was very helpful.

But anyway, your post is interesting because you take us through your pain of figuring out podcasting. Sorry you had so much trouble, but we felt your pain also! lol

Courtney,
I must admit it makes me feel a little better about my own blog now that I see that you and several others in our class had similar issues. I spent over an hour on Podbean this morning trying to figure out how to embed a song into my blog. I tried repeatedly, copy and pasted the HTML code, yet for some reason, it kept erasing. I eventually gave up and did the same thing you did. I simply linked to my song of choice. But at least we made a sincere effort! I feel as though that should count for something!
